Shelby Walker remembered
By Tom Casino FightNews.com
Female fighter Shelby "Girl" Walker passed away on Sunday morning....(according to her website) the needless victim of a drug overdose which was the result of a lifetime of being abused. I met her on St. Patrick's Day 2005 in New York City. We had a press event for Wayne Braithwaite. Shelby came in with Steve Farhood (who was doing a story on her for a magazine in the UK) and her manager Larry Goldberg. I hit it off with them. She was thrilled to meet me and I was surprised that she knew who I was. I borrowed Brathwaite's belt and posed her for this photo and told her this could be her future, little do I know how it would end for her. I didn't think that it would end like this. A few weeks later they hired me to do a photo shoot at Gleason's Gym, we had a great time and she was the Belle of the Ball at Gleason's that day.
I'll bet she is now talking to Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson, telling them that she holds the record for the fastest KO, 5 seconds, in mixed martial arts.
May she rest in peace, she will be missed.
